All you need is… meow!
All you need is… meow!
All you need is… meow… meow!
You’re probably going to think that I’ve totally lost it with this one, but I’m a dedicated recycler, reuser, and repurposer and I like to think outside the recycle bin sometimes.
We share our home and life with several feline friends who think they rescued us and allow us to live here. While they do bring us a lot of joy and unconditional love, they also are the reason that our recycle bin fills up rather quickly each week. All those cat food cans!
So I challenged myself to try to think of something to do with some of these cans.
To use them in this project, after rinsing, I placed the cans in hot soapy water for awhile. Then I scrubbed them very well and removed the labels, making sure to wear rubber gloves so I wouldn’t cut myself.
I used my glue gun to glue the cans together in a heart shape.
I couldn’t decide whether to spray paint the wreath red or white. After much deliberation I spray painted both sides of the whole thing Krylon Ultra white. Before I painted I changed my mind and decided I wanted all the cans facing the same way.
I added small 4″ dollar store paper doilies on top of each can with my glue gun. Somehow my pic for this disappeared, but you can get a glimpse here. Then I sat back and thought about what to do next.
Then (surprise, surprise) I changed my mind and decided I wanted the sides of the cans to be red, but I couldn’t spray paint them now that the doilies were attached. Hmmmm.
So I scouted through my stash and found this red Christmas ribbon that I thrifted for $1. Luckily it was just the perfect width to fit the cans.
So, I attached the ribbon all the way around the outside of the wreath with my glue gun, following the contours of the cans.
Then I attached the ribbon all the way around the inside of the wreath the same way.
I printed the word MEOW 3 times and cut out the letters with an exacto knife.
I glued the letters on the doilies with spray adhesive. Then I printed out the words, cut them out in circles to fit inside the doilies, and glued them on the same way.
I craft like this, by the seat of my pants, all the time. I come up with an idea and I just run with it and see what happens. I don’t always have it all worked out when I start, and that’s OK. Sometimes the end result is even a surprise to me. lol.
I enjoy finding new ways to use things. A can isn’t always just a can. I believe many things can be more than what they are… if I just look at them differently.
So what do you think? Did I run too far with this one? Even if I did, it was sooo much fun.
Thanks so much for reading and remember…
Meow… is all you need!
