On Friday I showed off my perfectly disorganized craft room, but I didn’t show you what’s in my desk drawer.
Here’s a hint. These DIY jewelry organizers are the first step in getting my craft room back into shape.
In my thrifted finds post last Monday I showed you this cool black set of what I thought may be some kind of vintage cooking grills, or maybe they’re parts of a roasting pan. I’m still not sure, but whatever they are I bought the set for $1 with the purpose of using them to make hanging jewelry organizers.
Here’s my craft room desk drawer. Isn’t it terrible? I’ve been keeping my jewelry in here in these dollar store plastic bead organizers since I got rid of a 1970’s ugly jewelry box several years ago.
Here’s where my jewelry organizers are going to hang… on the inside of the master bedroom closet door, safely hidden away from mischievous felines, and giving me easy access to my jewelry in the morning when I’m rushing to get ready for work.
I took them out to the garage and spray painted them with Krylon Key Lime, drilled one hole in each of the handles, and screwed them onto the door.
I hung them with the handles facing the door so there’s plenty of room behind them.
Then I lightly drybrushed both organizers all over with some white acrylic paint that I had on hand. Sooo easy to do. Just dip the brush in the paint, wipe the excess off onto newspaper, and brush it on.
I added some larger S hooks to the bottom organizer to hang bracelets. I don’t wear necklaces often so I don’t have very many, but I do wear earrings and bracelets on a regular basis.
The majority of my jewelry is thrifted, but I do love to buy earrings when we travel. I have a jade pair from Alaska, a topaz pair from Paris, and a Larimar pair from the Caribbean.
I have a few very treasured pieces that my mother gave me that will still be kept in a sweet little thrifted jewelry box, which I’ll be making over at a later date.
I’m really loving that my drawer belongs to my craft room again, and now I can use the bead organizers for all my bits and bobs that I use to craft with. I’ll be showing my new drawer contents in a later post.
Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!
